Colin Farrell and Mark Hamill’s Epic Gotham City Encounter: The Joker and The Penguin Unite, Fans Can’t Handle It!

Two DC legends have come together, and fans are freaking out! On Tuesday, February 4, Mark Hamill revealed in an Instagram post that he and The Penguin actor Colin Farrell shared a fun moment together, posting a photo that appeared to have been taken backstage at an event. “The Joker meets The Penguin 🃏🐧,” Hamill, who voices the Joker in the DC Comics Universe’s animated series and films, captioned the snap. In the photo, the duo pointed at one another and smiled while dressed in black. “Too much talent in that photo! 🙌,” wrote one fan in the comments section, while a second added, “Gotham City legends!!” “And to think that this guy was your nemesis in Arkham City,” a third wrote.

Hamill, 73, first filled the Joker’s villainous shoes more than 30 years ago when he voiced the character in the Emmy-nominated Batman: The Animated Series. He has also lent his voice in adaptations of The Justice League and Superman, as well as the 2016 film Batman: The Killing Joke. His most recent performances as the Joker include Justice League Action, LEGO DC Super-Villains, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and MultiVersus, which is set to release in 2024.

Meanwhile, in 2024, Colin Farrell, 48, reprised his role as Gotham gangster The Penguin in the Max series of the same name. The Irish star originally played the role in Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman and went on to win a Golden Globe for his performance in the series last month, taking home the trophy for best male actor in a limited or anthology series at the 2025 ceremony. During his acceptance speech, Farrell expressed gratitude towards makeup artist Michael Marino for helping him achieve the significant physical transformation necessary to play Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin). “No one to thank on this one. I did it all by myself,” Farrell humorously remarked, before praising his “extraordinary” team for their efforts. “Just a raw, pared-down performance,” he added.

Farrell explained that the transformation process involved “three hours in the chair in the morning,” where he drank black coffee, listened to ’80s music, and essentially became a canvas for the team’s artistry. “I guess it’s prosthetics for here on out,” he added teasingly. Farrell also discussed his experience with the character in an interview with PEOPLE in September 2024, mentioning that he wore a bodysuit covering him “from wrist to ankle.” “Only things that were me were my hands and feet,” he clarified. “Everything else, including ears, were pieces. Everything was covered.”

The limited eight-episode series continues the story after the events of The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson in the titular role. The reunion of Colin Farrell and Mark Hamill in the midst of these iconic roles highlights the ongoing popularity of DC’s animated and live-action adaptations, keeping fans eagerly anticipating their future projects. With the excitement surrounding their recent encounter, it seems like Gotham City is alive with renewed interest in its legendary characters.
