Something exciting is brewing between Channing Tatum and the Wrexham AFC team ahead of Super Bowl LIX. A new commercial for STōK Cold Brew Coffee features Tatum, 44, back in his Magic Mike mode as he joins the Welsh football team in their locker room to teach some sultry dance moves. The ad spot will air on Fox during the big NFL game on Sunday, February 9, when the Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.
Tatum expressed his delight, saying, “This is kind of a weird dream come true. I never imagined it would come around like this! But it was so much fun.” Fueled by STōK, Tatum flips, gyrates, and grooves in front of the footballers, encouraging them to indulge their inner dancers when celebrating wins on the field. In a surprising twist, it doesn’t take long for the team to join in, which Tatum noted required little encouragement on the commercial’s set.
“Well over 50 percent of those dance moves, those boys came up with,” he recalls. “They legit had real opinions on what they wanted their celebrations to be. And we shot a ton. We obviously can’t do a five-minute Super Bowl ad, but we had enough material, let’s just say that.” Filmed under the banner of Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort, the STōK ad ends with a winking cameo from Reynolds, who co-owns Wrexham AFC alongside Rob McElhenney.
In a humorous exchange, Reynolds asks Tatum via telephone, “What’s up, doc?” to which Tatum responds seriously, “They’re ready.” Tatum, who has a friendly rapport with both Reynolds and McElhenney, added, “I haven’t really done any sort of dancing in a while, so I just was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s go’… We didn’t want to go full stripper. We wanted it to be fun and keep it PG.”
Interestingly, it seems that the Wrexham players were not starstruck by the Blink Twice star. Tatum admitted, “I was definitely more nervous to meet them. I went to their game and they were so nice… We all just got on really quickly and really easily, and then we just brought that fun to the actual piece.” This reaction from Tatum highlights the genuine camaraderie that developed during the ad’s filming.
As for the product inspiring such exuberant dancing, Tatum shared, “I drank STōK Cold Brew before they even offered this to me. As an actor you work weird hours… The body doesn’t know what time it is and what you’re asking it to do. Coffee and caffeine in general is probably one of the only ways that I get through it.” This personal connection adds a layer of authenticity to the advertisement.
With excitement building, Tatum and the Wrexham team’s STōK ad is set to play during Super Bowl LIX, and fans can look forward to seeing this dynamic collaboration come to life on Sunday, February 9, on Fox. The fusion of sports, celebrity, and creativity underscores the potential for unforgettable entertainment during one of the biggest events of the year.
