Hot on the heels of his Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations for The Brutalist, Guy Pearce is being joined in Mr. Sunny Sky by BAFTA nominee Rufus Sewell, Goya winner Eduard Fernández, and BAFTA winner Tom Davis. As previously revealed, also starring are BAFTA nominee Hannah Waddingham and Daniel Ings. The film is directed by Matt Chambers, based on his own screenplay, with filming scheduled to start later this year in Gran Canaria.
The crime-thriller follows Leonard Moore, a once chart-topping pop star who now finds himself a lounge singer at a mid-budget hotel in the Canary Islands. One fateful night, he meets Shirley, a fellow lost soul, and the two share an instant connection. However, Shirley’s husband is a dangerous man, and soon their burgeoning romance spirals into paranoia, suspense, and violence.
The film is produced by PK Fellowes of Ellipsis Pictures and Rowena Wallace of Peach House, with executive producers Peter Welter of Fresco Films and Stephen Kelliher and Sophie Green of Bankside Films. Casting is managed by Clare Harlow, and the film will feature the lens of Chambers’ longtime collaborator Nanu Segal BSC, with music supervised by Iain Cooke.
Rufus Sewell’s involvement in this project is highly anticipated, showcasing his versatility alongside other notable actors. The film promises a gripping storyline, blending elements of drama and thrill, making it a standout entry in this year’s upcoming productions. As Bankside continues sales at the EFM, audience expectations are building, making Mr. Sunny Sky a film to watch in the coming months.
