Vicky Kaushal has expressed his enthusiasm for joining the horror-comedy genre, particularly the successful universe created by Maddock Films. As he prepares for his upcoming role in the historical drama Chhava, which features Rashmika Mandanna, Kaushal is keen on exploring new creative territories within the film industry.
Maddock Films has become a powerhouse in the horror-comedy genre, known for hits like Stree and Bhediya, and has included stars such as Rajkummar Rao and Varun Dhawan in its successful ventures. While Vicky Kaushal has tackled various genres—from action triumphs like URI: The Surgical Strike to romantic comedies like Zara Hatke Zara Bachke—he has not yet ventured into horror-comedy.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Vicky shared his aspirations, stating, “I would love to because that’s one genre I haven’t attempted yet. If something interesting comes up, preferably with Maddock, since they have mastered the genre, I would take it up.” This statement reflects his eagerness and openness to dive into new filmmaking experiences, particularly in a genre that combines humor with fright.
While Kaushal has not yet done a horror-comedy film, he has previously explored the horror genre in Bhoot – The Haunted Ship, produced by Dharma Productions. Reflecting on this experience, he noted his intrigue regarding the film’s unique direction, saying, “I was intrigued by why Dharma was interested in making a horror film. When I read the script, I found it refreshing because it was pure horror—no romance, songs, or comedy.” He elaborated that he felt Bollywood needed a fresh take on horror to mirror the success of many Hollywood films.
Vicky Kaushal’s commitment to diverse roles is evident, and his upcoming film Chhava, set to release on February 14, will showcase him portraying the historic figure Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. With the talented A. R. Rahman composing the score and a promising ensemble cast, excitement is building around this project. Vicky’s potential entrance into the horror-comedy realm could further enrich his illustrious career and introduce new elements to Indian cinema that fans eagerly anticipate.
