Channing Tatum is reminiscing about his memorable journey to Wales with Ryan Reynolds. On Sunday, February 9, Tatum, 44, shared a collection of photographs on Instagram that highlighted his time spent in the country, which included filming a Super Bowl commercial with Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s professional soccer club, Wrexham AFC. Tatum’s caption conveyed his enthusiasm: “Caffeine and dancing aside, that trip to Wrexham was something I’ll never forget. What Ryan Reynolds @vancityreynolds and @robmcelhenney have done for the community in Wrexham is magic.”
Among the images Tatum posted were snapshots of himself and Reynolds around a Deadpool sculpture, their interactions with fans throughout the city, and behind-the-scenes moments from the set of his commercial for STōK Cold Brew Coffee. Tatum expressed his appreciation for the town and team, noting, “I spent a few days (and nights) there. The team and town have a sense of optimism and a ride or die loyalty that made me want to stay forever.” He further celebrated their efforts by saying, “Incredible work, Ryan and Rob. Good people build good things. And thanks to the many beautiful people of Wrexham. Up the town!”
The commercial they filmed aired during the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9. In the advertisement, Tatum showcases his talents by teaching players from AFC Wrexham some Magic Mike-style dance moves inspired by cold brew coffee. Discussing his relationship with Reynolds and McElhenney, Tatum told PEOPLE, “I’m buddies with both of them…and I haven’t really done any sort of dancing in a while, so I just was like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s go’… We didn’t want to go full stripper. We wanted it to be fun and keep it PG.”
Tatum and Reynolds recently appeared together in the upcoming blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, where Tatum finally realized his dream of portraying the comic book character Gambit. Although the future of their roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains uncertain, both actors have expressed a desire to develop a standalone Gambit movie featuring a cameo by Reynolds’ Deadpool. Reynolds commented on Tatum’s role, saying, “I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role.” He added, “It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”
This collaboration and shared experience in Wrexham reflects not just a friendship between Tatum and Reynolds, but also their commitment to showcasing positivity through their work. As Tatum looks back on this unforgettable trip, it serves as a reminder of how important community and good people are in building lasting memories and impactful projects.
