“Harris Dickinson’s Directorial Debut ‘Urchin’ Featuring Frank Dillane Set to Shine at EFM with Charades!”

Harris Dickinson, recognized for his role in “Babygirl” with Nicole Kidman, is now stepping into the director’s chair with his feature debut “Urchin.” Currently in post-production, this highly anticipated film will be presented at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin, with Charades handling the sales. The film is co-represented in the U.S. by Gersh and UTA Independent Film Group.

Written and directed by Dickinson, whose acting portfolio includes films like “Triangle of Sadness” and “The Iron Claw,” “Urchin” tells the compelling story of Mike, a rough sleeper in London ensnared in a cycle of self-destruction as he strives to rebuild his life. The film is described as “raw and absurd,” capturing “the strange patterns that keep pulling us back” into difficult circumstances.

The film features an impressive cast led by Frank Dillane, known for his work in “Harvest” and “Fear the Walking Dead,” who portrays Mike. Supporting roles include Megan Northam, Amr Waked, Karyna Khymchuk, and Shonagh Marie. This diverse ensemble is set to bring depth and nuance to Dickinson’s poignant narrative.

Produced by Archie Pearch for Devisio Pictures and Scott O’Donnell for Somesuch, “Urchin” was developed with the backing of BBC Film and is financed by BBC Film, BFI, and Tricky Knot. Executive Producers include Eva Yates, Ama Ampadu, Alexandra Tynion, and Olivia Tyson. The film was shot in East London, embodying the authentic backdrop vital to its storytelling.

Pearch expressed enthusiasm about Dickinson’s debut, stating, “Urchin marks an exciting debut for Devisio and a bold step for Harris as a writer and director. Harris is a filmmaker who embraces risk, bringing raw emotion and a distinct vision to the screen. The film reflects his deep personal connection to these issues and his ongoing work in his community.” Dillane’s portrayal is described as “incredibly vulnerable, and unexpectedly humorous,” making the film particularly special.

O’Donnell added, “Urchin has been a wonderful journey. Harris has shown himself to be an exceptional writer and director, and the film shines a light on characters so often overlooked in cinema.” He emphasized that the combination of Dickinson’s unique vision and Dillane’s exceptional performance results in a significant cinematic work.

Charades co-founder Carole Baraton noted, “We were immediately drawn to Harris’ heartfelt writing and his vision for the project. We are confident he is an important voice to take out to the world, and are eager to collaborate with his hardworking and supportive producers.”

The film’s department heads include acclaimed cinematographer Josée Deshaies, casting director Shaheen Baig, production designer Anna Rhodes, costume designer Cobbie Yates, and BIFA Award-winning makeup and hair designer Lisa Mustafa. The team’s collaborative effort aims to bring Harris Dickinson’s powerful story to audiences, promising an unforgettable cinematic experience.

As “Urchin” prepares to premiere at EFM, the excitement around Harris Dickinson’s directorial debut continues to build, highlighting his potential as a rising voice in filmmaking and the unique narratives he wishes to tell.
