Farah Khan has recently shared her heartfelt experiences regarding her struggles with infertility and her journey through in vitro fertilization (IVF) at the age of 42. On a podcast with actor Debinna Bonnerjee, she opened up about the challenges she faced before conceiving her triplets, Czar, Anya, and Diva, born on February 11, 2008, with her husband Shirish Kunder.
In her candid interview, Farah explained the reasons behind her late pregnancy. “Pehle toh main bolungi late pregnancy kyuki meri shaadi hi late hui. I was 40 years old when I got married. Toh waise bhi pregnancy late hi honi thi. (First of all I will say late pregnancy because my marriage got delayed. I was 40 years old when I got married. So anyway, the pregnancy was bound to be late.)” she revealed, highlighting how the timing of her marriage contributed to her challenges.
Farah recounted the advice they received from a gynaecologist to attempt natural conception before considering IVF. “Uske baad ek-do saal hum log ne naturally try kiya kyuki hum ek gynaecologist ke paas gaye the and I said ki I am old toh… unhone kaha, ‘Nahi try naturally’, toh naturally nahi ho raha tha. (After a year or two we tried naturally because we went to a gynaecologist and I said I am too old… He said, ‘Don’t try naturally’, it was not happening naturally)” she said, indicating the frustration many couples face during such attempts.
Fortunately, a friend who had recently given birth to twins encouraged Farah to seek help urgently. “Luckily ek friend mill gayi jo abhi thodi older hai, aur she was carrying twins. She said, ‘Listen, tomorrow morning you are just going to this gynaecologist… to this IVF doctor. The next morning we started the IVF,” Farah shared, showing how supportive friends can play a crucial role in such journeys.
Upon visiting the reproductive specialist, Farah was advised to begin IVF without delay. “She said, ‘You have to start today, aap already 2 saal late aa rahe ho mere paas.’ Toh that time I was 42 already, so waha se phir humne IVF ki journey shuru ki. (She said, ‘You have to start today, you are already 2 years late’, So that time I was 42 already, so from there we started the journey of IVF),” she explained. This direct approach underscores the urgency faced by many couples dealing with infertility as they weigh their options.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure where sperm and egg are combined in a laboratory setting to create an embryo, which is then placed in the uterus. As many couples face difficulties in conceiving naturally due to various factors like low ovarian reserve or blocked fallopian tubes, IVF has emerged as a significant option for those struggling with infertility.
Farah Khan’s openness about her IVF journey not only inspires those in similar situations but also promotes awareness regarding infertility and the options available to couples. Her story highlights the emotional and physical challenges many endure, making it an important discussion in today’s society.
