Back in 1996, during a tour in the USA and UK, Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan shared an amusing tech moment that has recently resurfaced. Shah Rukh Khan, known for his tech-savvy nature, persuaded Aamir to purchase a laptop. However, Aamir, who openly admitted to his struggles with technology, left the device unopened for a staggering five years. When he finally decided to check on it, he discovered that it no longer functioned.
Aamir Khan recounted this humorous anecdote at the NASSCOM annual technology and leadership summit. According to the Indian Express, Aamir remembered, “In 1996, Shah Rukh Khan and I were doing a show together in the USA and UK. Even back then, he was always ahead when it came to technology.” While traveling together, Shah Rukh Khan suggested Aamir buy a new Toshiba laptop. Despite Aamir’s initial hesitation, thinking he didn’t need it, SRK managed to convince him by explaining its potential usefulness for managing important work and data. Aamir then agreed, stating, “You get one for yourself, and get one for me too.”
Despite purchasing the laptop, Aamir never utilized it. Years later, his manager noticed the device collecting dust and asked if he could use it. Aamir recalled, “He said, ‘Sir, I always see your laptop just lying there. Can I use it?’ I said, ‘Please, go ahead.’ So he tried to turn it on, but it didn’t work.” Laughing about the situation, Aamir admitted, “Technology and I are so far apart.”
As for their careers, Aamir Khan’s last film, Laal Singh Chaddha, faced challenges at the box office while Shah Rukh Khan is enjoying immense success with recent hits like Jawan, Pathaan, and Dunki. This lighthearted story not only showcases their friendship but also highlights Aamir Khan’s playful relationship with technology, reminding us all that sometimes things are best left unopened.
