More information about the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal has been revealed, as World of Reel reports that the film officially has a name. The film is titled Remain and is set to start production in August later this year. This new project will showcase Shyamalan working with a new Director of Photography, Adolpho Veloso, known for his work on the upcoming Train Dreams.
The project is described as a “supernatural romantic thriller,” based on an original story created by both Shyamalan and renowned author Nicholas Sparks, who is best known for works including The Notebook, Dear John, and The Last Song. Notably, many of Sparks’ works have also been adapted into films. A report from Deadline indicates that Shyamalan and Sparks are co-creating the story, with Shyamalan writing the screenplay and Sparks writing a novel that parallels the original tale.
While the plot details and future casting information about the film remain a mystery, excitement builds around Jake Gyllenhaal’s involvement in this unique project. Gyllenhaal’s latest film was the 2024 remake of Road House, produced for Amazon, and he is also set to star in Guy Ritchie‘s forthcoming action thriller In the Grey, alongside Henry Cavill, Eiza González, and Rosamund Pike. Additionally, he will appear in a monster movie titled The Bride!, which is directed by his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, featuring an impressive cast that includes Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.
For Shyamalan, this film will follow his 2024 release, Trap, featuring Josh Hartnett and his daughter, Saleka Night Shyamalan, who contributed original music for the film. Before that, he directed the apocalyptic psychological horror Knock at the Cabin in 2023, which starred a talented ensemble including Dave Bautista and Rupert Grint. The collaboration between M. Night Shyamalan and Jake Gyllenhaal in Remain promises to deliver a thrilling narrative that captivates audiences.
