Julez Smith enjoys embracing his role as the big cousin. The nephew of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, he shared insights about his relationship with their youngest daughter, Rumi, highlighting how it has evolved as he has aged. In an interview with Teen Vogue published on February 13, Julez, now 20, recalled a moment he had with Rumi, who is just 7. “My baby cousin Rumi, I seen her not too long ago, before I went to Paris actually,” he explained. “I was packing my bag and she was like, ‘Where are you going?’ I was like, ‘I’m going to Paris.’ She was like, ‘Oh, you’re going to work.’” Julez noted this interaction marked a shift as Rumi began to recognize him as a young adult with responsibilities.
Rumi is not the only one who remarks on Julez growing up. He mentioned that her twin, Sir, and 13-year-old Blue Ivy also challenge him with questions about adulthood, asking things like, “You drive now?” Julez responded, “Yeah, I’m 20 now. I ain’t the same 15-year-old when you were born, you feel me.” Julez’s reflections showcase the changing dynamics as the younger cousins appreciate his maturity and new roles in life.
