Jason Isaacs Hints at ‘Incredible Actors’ Cast for Max’s Harry Potter Series—Get Ready for Exciting News!

There hasn’t been any official word yet on who will be heading to Hogwarts for Warner Bros.’ and Max’s upcoming Harry Potter television series, though casting rumors have abounded. However, one person who claims to know some details about the show is Jason Isaacs, who portrayed the villainous Death Eater Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. So while details remain unclear, it seems some people connected to the Wizarding World are in the know.

“Oh, I know who they’re casting. They’re incredible actors,” Isaacs told Screen Rant in an interview. He wouldn’t elaborate on any specifics but added, “[I know] some of them, yeah. And they’re incredible actors.” One thing Isaacs did speak about, though, was the creative process for the upcoming series, which counts Mark Mylod of Succession fame as its showrunner.

“It’s being done by the same people who did the films and Mark Mylod’s running it, who is a brilliant showrunner,” Isaacs said, adding, “I worked with him years ago on Entourage, but he ran, he did lots of Game of Thrones. We did Succession as well. It’s a phenomenally talented man, and they don’t need any advice from me.”

While no official casting has been announced, various names have been floated around. The show will portray the same timeline as the Harry Potter films but feature different characters’ perspectives. There are at least some actors reportedly on the radar: John Lithgow is reportedly in negotiations to play Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, while Paapa Essiedu is reportedly in talks to portray the school’s antiheroic potions professor, Severus Snape. However, nothing has been set in stone yet, and it remains unclear who will take on the plum roles of Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Harry Potter himself.

Mylod, coming off acclaim for his dark comedy film The Menu in 2022, is taking on a large mantle in addition to showrunning; he will also executive produce and write the Harry Potter series alongside Francesca Gardiner. Controversial Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling is also executive producing the show for her Brontë Film and TV banner alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and Heyday Films’ David Heyman; the latter played a significant role in helming the Harry Potter film franchise.

No release date has been announced for the Harry Potter series, though all eight films are currently streaming on Max.
