Action-film legend Sylvester Stallone’s less heralded movie, Bullet to the Head, is getting a new home. The 2012 film is set to debut via Tubi on February 16, allowing fans to see the hard-hitting action flick without charge. Previously, the film has been available on another free streaming service, Plex, and for subscribers on Amazon Prime Video, as well as on home video.
Directed by Walter Hill, known for his work on The Warriors, Bullet to the Head features a screenplay by Oscar-nominated writer Alessandro Camon. The movie follows New Orleans-based hitman James Bonomo, also known as Jimmy Bobo, portrayed by Stallone. Bobo is forced to collaborate with Detective Taylor Kwan, played by Sung Kang, as they attempt to bring down corrupt businessman Robert Morel, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, after being targeted by an assassin named Keegan, portrayed by Jason Momoa.
The film is based on Alexis Nolent’s French graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tête (Lead to the Head). However, Bullet to the Head proved to be a critical and commercial misfire for Stallone. The Warner Bros. project failed to recoup its $55 million budget, grossing only $22 million worldwide. The film currently holds a 45% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Stallone even received a Worst Actor nomination at the Golden Raspberry Awards for his performance.
Since the release of Bullet to the Head, Stallone has seen varied results with his action films. The Expendables franchise produced hits and misses at the box office, with the recent Expend4bles sending the series out on a low note. His latest project, Alarum, has further clouded his predominantly strong reputation as an action movie stalwart. This film earned a dismal rating on Rotten Tomatoes, marking a rare failure for Stallone in his genre.
Despite this, one of Sylvester Stallone’s less-than-stellar movies will soon find a new audience. Fortunately, Stallone has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to his role in the Paramount+ crime drama Tulsa King, where he portrays a mob boss working to establish control over the titular city in Oklahoma. The show, much like its first season, attracted impressive viewership and critical acclaim, leading to news that Tulsa King is set for two additional seasons, with Stallone signed on to continue as both lead and executive producer.
Fans of action-packed cinema and Sylvester Stallone can mark their calendars for Bullet to the Head’s debut on Tubi this February 16. This event not only brings Stallone’s film back to the forefront but also reaffirms his enduring legacy in the action genre as viewers can again experience his thrilling performances.
