The Batman Part II has faced numerous delays during its development, frustrating fans eager for the continuation of Matt Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga. However, star Robert Pattinson mentioned that the plan is to start filming in the near future. At the premiere of his new film, Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, the actor spoke with Deadline regarding updates on the next Batman film. When asked about when he would begin shooting his second outing as the Caped Crusader, Pattinson indicated a timeframe of late 2025 but did not provide further specifics.
“At the end of the year,” Pattinson responded when queried about The Batman Part II’s production timeline. He was also asked about the sequel’s storyline, but he couldn’t share any plot details, promising only that “it’s cool, though.” Back in December 2024, the release date for Batman Part II was postponed to October 2027, which is over five years after 2022’s The Batman premiered. DC Studios co-head James Gunn explained that the delay was due to an incomplete script, but it appears that The Batman Part II is getting back on track.
Reeves stated in January that he intends to start filming “this year.” As Robert Pattinson awaits the commencement of The Batman Part II, he remains busy with other projects. He is part of a star-studded cast for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, which also features A-listers such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and Zendaya. Nolan is preparing to start production on The Odyssey, with filming set to begin in March.
For fans eager to see Pattinson’s Dark Knight back on screen, this update may be somewhat disappointing, as it suggests several more months before The Batman Part II begins filming. The vague timeline of “the end of the year” implies that principal photography will likely start in late fall or early winter, after Pattinson completes his work on The Odyssey. Nonetheless, the establishment of a general timeframe indicates that The Batman Part II is perhaps closer to production than before.
While timelines can shift, if the filmmakers adhere to this plan, they will have ample time to ensure the movie is prepared for its 2027 premiere. The fact that Reeves has shared story details with Andy Serkis suggests that he has developed the narrative and is only awaiting completion of the screenplay. If no further delays occur, fans should expect to learn more specific information about The Batman Part II throughout the remainder of the year.
So far, no announcements have been made regarding new cast additions, although it is known that Reeves aims to highlight more characters from Batman’s iconic rogues gallery. Following the success of The Penguin, Reeves’ interpretation of Gotham City remains a highly anticipated subject, and fans will undoubtedly be excited to see what he has planned for the sequel.
