One of the faces of horror in Hollywood could reportedly scare up a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new report claims Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, is in line for a possible MCU part, adding to her growing film CV. According to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman, Ortega recently spoke with Marvel Studios about a potential role in a future MCU project. While specific details about the part discussed remain unclear, there has been speculation about her portraying White Tiger in the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again.
Tim Burton, the director of Beetlejuice, has stated that two of his most popular movies won’t have legacy sequels. Ortega, who has emerged as a new-age Scream Queen for her performances in various horror projects, has a resume that features notable films and psychological thrillers such as Insidious: Chapter 2, Scream, Scream VI, and Beetlejuice. However, she has showcased her versatility through roles in the erotic thriller, Miller’s Girl, and the romantic drama, Winter Summer Summer or Fall, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last June.
Although Jenna Ortega has not yet starred in a comic book film since gaining fame, she briefly appeared in the MCU previously, notably as the Vice President’s Daughter in Iron Man 3. Over the years, MCU fans have suggested her for various roles, including the aforementioned White Tiger and several parts within the X-Men franchise, especially with an X-Men reboot in development at Marvel. The potential absence of main characters, following the departure of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega from Scream, raises questions about the continuation of their storylines.
Given Ortega’s increasingly busy schedule, her potential appearance in the MCU remains uncertain. She has several films lined up, including the upcoming A24 comedy horror flick, Death of a Unicorn, in which she stars alongside comic book film actors Paul Rudd and Anthony Carrigan from the Superman franchise. Death of a Unicorn is set to premiere at South by Southwest on March 8 before its theatrical release on March 28.
In addition, Ortega will be featured in the Lionsgate musical psychological thriller, Hurry Up Tomorrow, alongside Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Barry Keoghan, which is set for a May 16 cinematic premiere. Following her success with Wednesday, which achieved record-breaking viewership numbers on Netflix during its first season, Ortega aims to elevate the series even further in Season 2. She also has production credits for the upcoming season, which promises more horror elements and less romantic tropes. Filming took place in Ireland between April and November of last year, resulting in eight new episodes. Ortega’s exceptional performance in the role earned her a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams. Season 2 of Wednesday is anticipated to premiere on Netflix later this year.
