Sanam Teri Kasam is making waves with its recent re-release, and director Vinay Sapru, alongside Radhika Rao, is thrilled about the film finally receiving the recognition it deserves at the box office. Originally released in 2016, the Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane starrer faced commercial failure. However, over the past nine years, it has cultivated a dedicated fan base, which has resulted in this remarkable success during its 2025 re-release.
In an exclusive conversation with DNA India, Vinay Sapru discussed the film’s achievements, their reactions to both the initial and current receptions, and what to expect from Sanam Teri Kasam 2. When asked if he believes the film exemplifies the phrase ‘der aaye durust aaye’, he shared, “When we were making the film, we were pretty confident that it would work. While working on the project, we knew that it would click among the audience. So yes, yeh sach hai ki durust aaye, par hume yakeen tha ki film chalegi hi.”
Vinay reflected on their response when the original release fell flat. He quoted the Bhagavad Geeta, stating, “Surrender to me and I shall deliver. Karm kiye ja fal ki iccha mujh pe chhod de. Apne karm ache karo.” This philosophy guided them through the disappointing early response, as he noted, “From the first day, when we started writing this film, we were confident about it. But then woh nahi chali. But yes, now with the reception of the re-release, we think hume humara fal mil gaya.”
Regarding Sanam Teri Kasam 2, Vinay revealed that the storyline is already prepared, with aspirations for a Valentine’s Day 2025 release. When asked if he would like Salman Khan to lead the sequel, his eyes lit up, and he remarked, “Salman has been a great help for us. Woh apni marzi ke maalik hai, par agar woh aa jayenge toh phir sone pe suhaaga ho jayega.”
He further divulged details about the sequel, indicating that the groundwork was laid during the development of the first film, as he said, “Jab hum Part One likh rahe the, tabhi Part Two bhi likhna start kar diya tha. Ab story ready hai, humne iske 3-4 gaane bhi ready kar liye hai. Jaha Part One khatam hoti hai, wohi se Part 2 shuru hogi.”
