Miles Teller’s grandma might be disappointed that her campaign to land her grandson the role of James Bond went nowhere. Teller had never expressed interest in the role before his grandma thought it was a good idea to go on X and tweet about it. The Whiplash actor recently confirmed that neither Barbara Broccoli nor anyone associated with James Bond contacted him for the role. While Teller’s chance to play 007 looks grim, fans already have their favorites for the role.
Some fans want the role to go to Henry Cavill, who can redeem himself with this second attempt at playing Bond. Others want the young blood, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, to take on the coveted role of the British spy. Miles Teller has been in the industry for more than a decade and a half. His career began strongly, with performances in Whiplash and Bleed for This earning critical acclaim. However, he dropped the ball with franchise movies like the Divergent series and the Fantastic Four reboot.
Nevertheless, Teller made a comeback as Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in Top Gun: Maverick. His latest release is The Gorge, in which he starred alongside Anya Taylor-Joy. He and Taylor-Joy appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to promote the film, where a fan asked an interesting question. The fan wanted to know if there was any update on his grandma’s campaign to land him the role of James Bond.
Daniel Craig said a definitive goodbye to the James Bond role in 2021, and Eon Productions have been searching for a new actor ever since. In 2022, Teller’s grandma Leona Flowers, who goes by @MupTheQueen on X, took to the platform to promote her grandson as the next 007. She wrote, “They’re looking for an actor to replace Daniel Craig for future 007 movies. I think my grandson, Miles Teller, has proven that he has everything they’re looking for—talent, looks, strength, worldwide appeal, and oh, so cool. He can be that guy! Wouldn’t he be great?”
Teller shared that he hasn’t had any actual discussions with producers ever since his grandma posted on X, which was surprising for him. He stated, “I think my grandma like if she tweets something out into the universe, you know, it should happen. So we’ll see.” When Cohen shared that he loved the fact that Teller’s grandma was on X, the Spectacular Now actor gave a shout-out to her page.
While the update is disappointing for Teller’s fans and his grandma, another set of fans will be happy that Teller didn’t get the call. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been long in the running for the next 007 ever since reports emerged in March 2024. The British gambling company Ladbrokes once named Taylor-Johnson as the most likely candidate to land the role. However, their current favorite is James Norton, while Taylor-Johnson is still in the running.
After Daniel Craig’s retirement, established names like Henry Cavill and Idris Elba had been thrown around for the next James Bond role. However, the actor needed to commit to this iconic position for probably the next 15 years or more. Taylor-Johnson’s various roles proved that he is both charismatic and physically capable of pulling off the role. In particular, his role in Bullet Train opposite Brad Pitt piqued the interest of the audience.
Yet, Taylor-Johnson’s failure to bring audiences into the theater for Kraven the Hunter might ruin his chances. Other favorites for the role include Theo James, Jack Lowden, Regé-Jean Page, and Paul Mescal. All James Bond films are available for streaming on MGM+ and Prime Video.
