Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe is venturing into the world of mixed martial arts fighting for his new movie, Beast in Me. New images from the film, co-written by Crowe, have just been released, raising excitement among fans. This thrilling project also stars Luke Hemsworth and Daniel MacPherson, with direction by Tyler Atkins and co-writer David Frigerio. Currently in production in Australia and Bangkok, the film features a talented ensemble including Mojean Aria, Kelly Gale, Bren Foster, Saphira Moran, and Australian musician Amy Shark.
Beast in Me follows the story of Patton James, portrayed by MacPherson, who decides to sacrifice his MMA career to support his wife, Luciana, and their son. However, when Patton’s brother, Malon, suffers a serious injury and is faced with financial threats from dangerous figures, Patton is compelled to avenge him in a crucial ONE Championship fight. In this emotional journey, Crowe takes on the role of Sammy, a veteran trainer guiding Patton through the intense world of MMA.
This film marks one of Crowe’s first projects following his appearance in the Sony film Kraven the Hunter, in which he played Nikolai Kravinoff. The production of Beast in Me is being managed by John Schwartz and Michael Schwartz of Deeper Water Films, David Frigerio from Broken Opel Pictures, and Tim O’Hair of Armagh Films. Executive producers include Shane Abbess, Brett Thornquest, Jamie Arscott, Lisa Wilson, and Myles Nestel.
Reflecting on the film’s narrative, Frigerio described it as “truly a martial arts film with a hero’s journey at the heart,” adding that the nuanced characters bring forth drama while the epic fights deliver dynamic action, certain to thrill audiences globally. The film aims to resonate by capturing the raw energy and emotion of MMA fights, a sentiment echoed by John Schwartz, who emphasized the authentic environment created for the film, including a climactic scene filmed at a real ONE Championship fight venue with over 10,000 fans in attendance.
Chatri Sityodtong, ONE Chairman and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with the star-studded cast and production team, stating his confidence that ONE represents the best platform to showcase their narrative of grit, perseverance, and determination. While a release date for Beast in Me has yet to be announced, fans can still enjoy Crowe’s latest film, Kraven the Hunter, which is currently available on digital platforms.
