Recently, DJ Aqeel, who has frequently performed at these glamorous gatherings, shared insights into the events that unfold within the opulent walls of Mannat during a conversation with Siddharth Kannan.
“I have played at Shah Rukh Khan’s house a hundred times,” DJ Aqeel revealed. He noted the dynamics among the high-profile guests, stating, “In those parties, Shah Rukh, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan would be in corners in their own groups. If I play one actor’s song, the other would feel bad. So, I would make sure I would play all their songs so that everybody is happy.” His strategy to maintain harmony among the stars involved recognizing their preferences and keeping the atmosphere lively.
DJ Aqeel continued, sharing how the actors would initially remain in their respective groups, observing when their songs were played. “Actors would notice, ‘Aacha tune uska gaana bajaya, aacha mera bhi bajaya (You played his song, okay you played mine too),’” he explained. Eventually, as the night progressed, these stars would let loose and hit the dance floor, showcasing their skills and camaraderie.
Reflecting on Shah Rukh Khan’s hospitality, DJ Aqeel emphasized, “Food was great, alcohol was great, people were great, his hospitality was great. Everything was amazing, attendance was 100 out of 100. Everybody was there.” The allure of these gatherings is so strong that guests often travel from abroad and far-off places just to attend. According to Aqeel, Shah Rukh would host these grand parties every two to three months, ensuring that everyone looked forward to the next event.
In his recollections, DJ Aqeel also touched upon other notable events like the sangeet ceremonies of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, as well as Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. “Saif and Kareena’s sangeet was very small, with only very few people there at the Taj. Abhishek’s was at his house in Juhu — it was a crazy party,” he remarked. The familiarity and comfort of performing for friends he has known for years make these events special to him.
