The collaboration was focused on creating four master-planned districts in the San Francisco Bay area, encompassing San Jose (Downtown West), Sunnyvale (Moffett Park), and Mountain View (Middlefield Park and North Bayshore). These projects were set to deliver over 15 million square feet of office, residential, retail, and other space.
The original deal, forged in 2019, had Google and Lendlease planning a decade-long redevelopment of Google’s properties in these locations. However, the pandemic prompted a significant shift in corporate real estate needs as companies embraced hybrid work models.
Google’s Senior Director of Development, Alexa Arena, stated that the company is exploring various options to fulfill its housing commitment. Google acknowledges Lendlease’s contributions and expressed gratitude for the work accomplished thus far.
As part of this decision, Lendlease will receive compensation for its role in the entitlement and master planning process. Furthermore, the San Francisco Bay Project, initially scheduled to commence construction in FY26, will be removed from Lendlease’s development pipeline.
