The backdrop to this announcement is the conflict between Israel and Hamas that led to heightened security considerations, prompting several airlines to suspend services to Tel Aviv. Notably, Israeli carrier El Al remained an exception during this period.
Data from Cirium highlights the impact of the conflict on Tel Aviv’s air traffic, revealing a substantial reduction in the number of airlines and flights. Before the conflict, there were 63 airlines operating 256 flights to Tel Aviv. Lufthansa, contributing 2% with five daily flights, played a role in this robust pre-conflict air traffic. In contrast, recent data paints a different picture, with only 10 airlines serving the airport, and El Al dominating the flight volume.
