Even with two Oscars to his name, Robert De Niro begins his mornings alongside his toddler watching “Ms. Rachel.” In a conversation with Andy Cohen on Sirius XM’s Radio Andy, De Niro described his two-year-old daughter Gia’s “discerning taste” for television. She has grown fond of YouTuber Ms. Rachel, which forms the staple of their morning routine.
“That’s what I did this morning,” De Niro shared with Cohen, referring to enjoying “Ms. Rachel,” “The Wiggles,” and “Blippi” with his daughter. While admitting that “The Wiggles” are somewhat basic, he explained that “Ms. Rachel” has been a consistent favorite, pointing to its captivating nature. De Niro noted that Gia, whom he shares with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, has shown a more refined taste as she becomes increasingly familiar with the show’s content.
As Gia’s entertainment palette becomes more sophisticated, she’s keenly waiting for new episodes, skits, and songs. “She’ll quickly say ‘Okay, next,'” De Niro added, highlighting her eagerness for fresh content. As the focus remains on her current television favorites, she’ll sometimes prompt him to try something different, saying, “No, no, no. Next.”
Beyond his parental role, De Niro recently teamed up with director Barry Levinson, playing dual roles in “The Alto Knights” as mob bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. The crime thriller, penned by Nicholas Pileggi, opened to mixed reviews and modest box office returns, making $1.17 million from Friday and previews, a striking contrast to its $45 million production budget.
While “The Alto Knights” traces the narrative of mid-twentieth-century Italian American mafia events, including Genovese’s attempt on Costello in 1957, De Niro’s participation drew attention. Levinson remarked on De Niro’s embodiment of the dual role, admiring his versatility as akin to working with two distinct actors. As De Niro balances his stardom with domestic life, his morning TV routine remains a testament to his devotion, both on and off screen.
