Jason Statham‘s latest film, A Working Man, has made a strong entry into Chinese cinemas, securing the #2 spot in its debut weekend, although it earned 29% less than his previous release, The Beekeeper. The film’s performance is notable despite the fact that Ne Zha 2 has dominated the box office for two months straight, making the top position elusive for new releases.
Directed by David Ayer, who also collaborated with Jason Statham on The Beekeeper, A Working Man promises to captivate audiences as an action-thriller. The film, co-starring Michael Peña and David Harbour, has been released internationally by Warner Bros Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios through Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the United States.
According to Luiz Fernando’s report, the film’s opening-day collection in China was impressive, closely trailing Snow White‘s three-day total in just one day, grossing $845K with over 59K screenings. Although the opening was slightly lower than The Beekeeper‘s $1.2 million in China, it still achieved significant box office success. This performance was ahead of Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny‘s $810K but slightly behind other successful films like The Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes and Shazam 2.
On Saturday, A Working Man collected $140K in pre-sales and is being shown across 72K screenings. The movie aims for a three-day total of $2.5 million to $4 million in China. Meanwhile, in the United States, expectations are high, with predictions of over $13.5 million in its opening weekend, challenging Snow White for the #1 box office spot.
The film has garnered mixed reviews, receiving 53% from critics but a remarkable 90% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It officially premiered on March 28. These box office numbers are based on preliminary estimates from various sources, and Jason Statham’s fans are eager to see how his latest film will continue to perform.
