The Family Man, featuring Manoj Bajpayee as its lead, premiered in 2019, swiftly transforming into one of India’s most celebrated web series. Bajpayee embodied the complex character of Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class man juggling familial responsibilities while secretly serving as an intelligence officer. His portrayal was so credible that imagining anyone else in the role seems nearly impossible.
Interestingly, Manoj Bajpayee wasn’t the first pick for this acclaimed project. Directors Raj & DK initially envisioned a different path for the series, originally planning it as a high-budget Telugu film starring none other than South Indian megastar Chiranjeevi. This choice was fueled by Chiranjeevi’s stature as one of the most prominent and financially successful actors in South India. Vyjayanthi Movies, with renowned producer C. Aswani Dutt at the helm, was set to produce the ambitious venture. It was said that the script underwent modifications to align with Chiranjeevi’s image, notably omitting Srikant’s children from the narrative.
Yet, despite entering pre-production, Chiranjeevi ultimately decided against accepting the role. Reports suggest that the star of Waltair Veerayya was hesitant to portray a father of two on screen, fearing fan disapproval. At the time, Chiranjeevi was enjoying the success of Khaidi No. 150, and the transition to a character like Srikant Tiwari might not have been appealing. Dutt disclosed that auditions for Srikant’s son were underway before the project unraveled due to Chiranjeevi’s reluctance.
Following Chiranjeevi’s decision, Raj & DK recalibrated their vision, transforming The Family Man into a web series. This shift paved the way for Manoj Bajpayee’s casting, leading to the creation of a beloved series on Amazon Prime Video. Bajpayee’s gripping performance as Srikant Tiwari contributed to his status as one of the highest-paid actors in the OTT arena.
The anticipation for The Family Man 3 continues to grow, although an official release date remains unconfirmed. Some rumors suggest that audiences might see Bajpayee reprise his role by 2025, intensifying excitement as fans eagerly await Srikant Tiwari’s next adventure in this thrilling saga.
