Emerging actor Owen Cooper recently shared insights into his role in the forthcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights,” where he stars alongside Margot Robbie, who plays the iconic Catherine Earnshaw. The adaptation, directed by Emerald Fennell, is highly anticipated, and Cooper’s involvement has generated significant interest due to his breakout role in Netflix’s “Adolescence.”
The young actor portrays a youthful Heathcliff, with the adult version played by Jacob Elordi. Despite the attention surrounding working with Margot Robbie, Cooper revealed on “This Morning” with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley that he doesn’t actually share scenes with Robbie. “I see her all the time and I speak to her all the time, but I don’t really have any scenes with her,” he remarked, which means fans will not witness the pair together on screen.
Transitioning from “Adolescence,” where episodes were shot in a single take, Cooper is experiencing traditional filming techniques for the first time. Despite the new challenges, he remains unfazed, stating, “Filming-wise it’s fine but obviously it’s a lot different, but it’s going really well.”
Cooper also credits his “Adolescence” co-star Stephen Graham for his role in securing the part. “Stephen recommended me his agent,” Cooper explained. “So Maddi [Bonura of Independent Talent] came and watch[ed] a bit of episode 1, and I got Wuthering Heights from that!”
Currently, the film is nearing the end of production, though an official release date has yet to be announced. Fans eagerly await to see Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw in what is expected to be a powerful performance, showcasing her range alongside Cooper’s promising talent.
With “Adolescence” accessible on Netflix, audiences can catch a glimpse of Cooper’s early work that paved the way for his role in this esteemed project. As anticipation builds for “Wuthering Heights,” viewers can look forward to a fresh interpretation of Emily Brontë’s timeless novel.
