Mithun Chakraborty, an iconic Bollywood actor and BJP leader, recently faced severe backlash from the Trinamool Congress over his controversial statements and alleged past associations with underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim. The political firestorm erupted as Chakraborty warned that Hindus in West Bengal would face existential threats if the BJP didn’t secure victory in the forthcoming assembly elections, comments that stirred significant controversy.
Trinamool General Secretary Jay Prakash Majumdar fiercely criticized Chakraborty, questioning his credibility and intentions. He spotlighted the actor’s alleged connections to Dawood Ibrahim, claiming that several of Chakraborty’s films were backed by the underworld don. Majumdar expressed disbelief over how Chakraborty could advocate for Hindu protection with such a background, stating, “He speaks about Hindus? Has he forgotten that Dawood Ibrahim was his sponsor?”
The allegations did not stop there. Majumdar accused Chakraborty of delivering “hate speeches” aimed at sowing discord among communities for political leverage. “Mithun is making highly communal remarks for political gains. Bengali Hindus have lived peacefully since independence, but his recent speeches are deeply shameful,” Majumdar asserted, criticizing the divisive nature of Chakraborty’s rhetoric.
The debate intensified as Majumdar challenged Chakraborty to make similar statements in Mumbai, especially within the film industry. He questioned whether Chakraborty would dare to speak against Muslims in the entertainment sector, hinting at the potential repercussions.
Compounding the controversy, Chakraborty was previously embroiled in legal issues when two FIRs were lodged against him for allegedly inciting violence during a BJP membership rally in Kolkata. The growing scrutiny underscores a tumultuous political landscape, leaving many to ponder the potential ramifications for Chakraborty’s political and acting careers.
