Viola Davis is preparing for her role in the upcoming action-packed thriller, G20, where she portrays the fearless US president Danielle Sutton, who must navigate a crisis when terrorists target the summit of world leaders. The role demands Davis to perform intense action scenes, which requires her to maintain a robust physique. To meet these demands, Davis has continued the rigorous training regimen she followed for her previous role in The Woman King.
In an interview with The Times, the acclaimed actress expressed her approach to portraying a powerful leader. “I’m not one of those women who is afraid to look muscular, and I don’t believe in losing a whole lot of weight so I can be magazine-ready,” said Davis, underscoring her commitment to authenticity. She elaborated, “There’s still a part of me that wants to represent real life. I wanted to look capable, a leader who’s willing to jump through the plate glass first.”
Davis also shared her thoughts on the film’s political undertones, noting the intentional omission of her character’s political party. “If you get down to the nitty gritty, we just wanna reach people,” she explained, adding, “I do not think it’s a suspension of disbelief to imagine someone who looks like me as the president.” Through her portrayal, Davis continues to break barriers, urging audiences to confront existing stereotypes.
