Dhanush‘s eagerly awaited Tamil film ‘Idly Kadai’ is set to make its mark both in theatres and on Netflix. Written, directed, and produced by Dhanush, the film will premiere in mid-2025, creating a buzz of excitement among fans. Though no official confirmation has yet been released, reports suggest that Netflix has acquired the film’s streaming rights for an impressive Rs 45 crore.
Featuring Dhanush and Nithya Menen in leading roles, the film promises to be a slice-of-life narrative set in a rural backdrop. The film also stars Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj, P. Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran, promising a powerhouse of performances. ‘Idly Kadai’ is produced under the banners of Wunderbar Films and Dawn Pictures, with the music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The film’s cinematography is handled by Kiran Koushik, while Prasanna GK takes charge of editing. Distribution is managed by Red Giant Movies.
Originally scheduled for release on April 10th, 2025, the film’s debut has been delayed. Producer Aakash Baskaran revealed that around 10% of the film is still to be filmed, including significant scenes involving Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, and Parthiban. The necessity of coordinating these schedules has necessitated the postponement of the release. A new release date will be announced upon the completion of filming.
This project signifies Dhanush’s fourth venture as a director and his 52nd film as an actor, showcasing his versatility and commitment to cinema. ‘Idly Kadai’ also reunites Dhanush with Nithya Menen after their successful collaboration in the 2022 film ‘Thiruchitrambalam’. Dhanush’s previous directorial, ‘Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam’, experienced a lackluster performance at the box office and is currently available on Prime Video.
