In a week rife with cinematic battles, Salman Khan‘s latest release ‘Sikandar’ faced fresh challenges at the box office, particularly with the introduction of Sunny Deol’s new film ‘Jaat.’ As anticipated, Thursday marked a notable dip in ‘Sikandar’s earnings, correlating with the opening day of ‘Jaat.’ While ‘Jaat’ boasts a pan-India reach, ‘Sikandar’ caters exclusively to Hindi audiences.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Sikandar’ garnered ₹75 lakh on day 12, reflecting a 44.44% drop in revenue from the previous day. On Wednesday, the film collected ₹1.75 crore across India. This brings its total domestic earning to an estimated ₹107.85 crore.
The film’s occupancy rate was a modest 8.93% on April 10, significantly overshadowed by ‘Jaat’s’ vibrant opening. Until day 11, the Salman Khan starrer had amassed an India Net Collection of ₹107.10 crore, complemented by a Worldwide Collection of ₹176.15 crore and an Overseas Collection of ₹49 crore. The India Gross Collection of the film stood at ₹127.15 crore.
Just days ago, the production team proudly announced that ‘Sikandar’ had joined the prestigious ₹200 crore club in the global box office tally. However, the figures shared by Sacnilk paint a slightly different picture, leaving discussions and speculations open among cinema enthusiasts. Despite these differences, the producers remain tight-lipped as they refrain from divulging further box office insights.
Directed by A.R. Murugadoss and backed by Sajid Nadiadwala along with Salman Khan Films, ‘Sikandar’ released strategically on March 30, coinciding with the festivities of Eid, and managed to capture an impressive ₹26 crore on its debut day.
On the competitive front, ‘Jaat,’ helmed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers alongside People Media Factory, recorded an opening day collection of ₹9.50 crore. Despite this, it trails behind ‘Sikandar’ regarding initial opening day success.
Amid this intense box office rivalry, Salman Khan shared a moment of camaraderie with Sunny Deol, extending a shoutout on social media. Through his Instagram stories, Salman highlighted Sunny, enjoying a sumptuous meal aboard a flight, perfectly encapsulating a shared moment of geniality. Adding zest, Salman tagged his contemporary with “#JAAT” followed by a flexed bicep emoji.
Sunny Deol, while promoting his film, reciprocated the warmth by acknowledging the bond he shares with Salman, showcasing a unique blend of professional rivalry and personal rapport.
