Viola Davis Embraces Action in G20, Enjoys Performing Her Own Stunts: ‘I Needed Some Fun’

Viola Davis is stepping into the action spotlight in her latest film, G20, where she not only stars but enthusiastically takes on her own stunts. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the acclaimed actress expressed her excitement about performing these demanding scenes, revealing, “I did almost all of it, believe it or not. I’m a masochist. I needed some fun at this point in my life.”

The film portrays Davis as an American president facing terrorists at the G20 Summit in Cape Town, a role that required her to engage in intense sequences. One particular scene stands out for its thrill, set in a kitchen where Davis described her childlike enjoyment, saying, “Maybe it’s the frying pan and knocking someone over the head. Little Viola had the most fun. I always wanted to play with the biggest boys and pretend to take them down. I was that kid. I wasn’t afraid. Everything else seemed boring to me.”

Appearing on Good Morning America on April 7, Davis shared personal reflections on how this action-packed role impacted her family, particularly her 14-year-old daughter, Genesis. While speaking to co-anchor Michael Strahan, she mentioned, “She was so excited. She kept saying, ‘Oh my goodness. Mom, Mom, you’re golden, mama. You’re golden!’ And she cried. She laughed.” Davis cherished the opportunity to be a hero in her daughter’s eyes, especially noting, “Usually in these teenage years, you just disappear. They become zombies, and you become anything other than a hero.” The emotional moment of her daughter watching on set was everything for Davis.

G20 is set to premiere on Prime Video on April 10, offering audiences a captivating blend of politics and action. With Viola Davis at the helm, performing her own stunts, the film promises to deliver a thrilling experience while highlighting her versatility as an actress. Fans can anticipate a story that carries both emotional depth and high-octane excitement, reinforcing Davis’s place in Hollywood’s action genre.
