Isabela Merced, who is eagerly anticipating her debut on the new season of “The Last of Us” this April, has candidly shared learning a valuable lesson from an accidental spoiler leak. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Merced recounted how she inadvertently revealed a spoiler about the highly-anticipated Superman movie directed by James Gunn, where she stars as Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl. The incident occurred during a table read, resulting in a swift realization of the mistake she had made.
On the day of the table read for the Superman movie, Merced unknowingly captured and shared a significant detail via her Instagram story. Excitedly seated where her character’s name was placed, she took a picture to capture the moment. “I wasn’t even looking at anything else. I just saw my name, and then I saw ‘Hawkgirl, Isabela.’ I was like, F*** yeah! I’m going to share this, put it on my (Instagram) Story,” Merced explained.
Much to her surprise, the Instagram story not only displayed her character’s name but also included the iconic Superman “S” logo. This realization came after she ignored four incoming calls while watching a movie. “Then I finally look at my phone, and they’re like, ‘You just revealed the Superman S!’ I go back to my story, and I’m like, ‘This wasn’t a stock image?! I was drawing that (S) since middle school,” she said.
Merced, who featured in last year’s hit “Alien: Romulus,” discovered the error rather quickly and took immediate action. Despite the post being online for only an hour, she faced a brief period of panic. Reflecting on the moment, she noted, “I was in trouble. But yeah, it’s fine. Innocent mistake,” illustrating how easily one can slip up in the age of social media.
The Superman movie, already creating a buzz with details like Alan Tudyk voicing Robot 4, is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025. Tudyk’s involvement was confirmed by Gunn via Threads when a curiosity-driven fan query prompted the revelation. Known for his role voicing K-2SO in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Tudyk’s participation adds further allure to the project.
The project is not the only highlight for Merced. She is also set to appear in the upcoming second season of “The Last of Us,” also premiering in April. Starring alongside Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, the drama has already been renewed for a third season, captivating audiences with thrilling narratives inspired by the renowned video game.
As July 11th approaches, anticipation builds for the Superman movie, also starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Nicholas Hoult, and Milly Alcock. The blend of seasoned actors and fresh faces promises an engaging cinematic experience. Despite the accidental spoiler, Isabela Merced remains optimistic and excited about her role in both the Superman project and “The Last of Us.” Fans eagerly await to see how her portrayal of Hawkgirl unfolds on the big screen, adding another layer of excitement to the superhero genre’s ever-growing narrative.
