Actor Orlando Bloom recently shared vivid memories from his early days on the set of the iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy. The films, directed by Peter Jackson and based on J.R.R. During a panel at Awesome Con in Washington, DC, Bloom candidly discussed the mix of excitement and uncertainty he felt as a young actor fresh out of drama school, surrounded by seasoned legends of the big screen.
“For me, as a young actor, I remember sitting there coming out of drama school with all of these legends,” Orlando Bloom stated. “And thinking, ‘What am I doing here? How did this happen? This is unbelievable.'” His reflections convey the awe and disbelief that encapsulated his experience as the trilogy’s films began production, starting with the first release in 2001.
Bloom was only 20 years old during the early stages of filming. Having read Tolkien’s books, he had a glimpse of the world they were about to bring to life. Nevertheless, the film set represented unknown territory for the fresh-faced actor, igniting both anticipation and the sense of embarking on a profound journey. “I was just like an open vessel, and it’s about that sort of anticipation, that excitement, that sort of sense of possibility, that feeling that your whole life is beginning and you’re beginning this remarkable journey. If I could bottle that feeling and give it to you all… I think we also never could’ve known — I don’t think any of us really knew what we were stepping into,” he added.
At the Awesome Con panel, Bloom was joined by his fellow cast members Liv Tyler, Sean Astin, and Jonathan Rhys-Davies. Liv Tyler, who played Arwen, shared similar sentiments, reflecting on the intensity and magnitude of participating in such a grand project. “The whole experience was so exciting and terrifying just to be a part of the whole world, the vastness of the material. I felt so much responsibility, and I still do. I get nervous when I talk about it,” she confessed. Her remarks highlight the shared challenge the cast felt while navigating their characters’ development for the screen.
