Abhijeet reignites Shah Rukh Khan song credit controversy: “No personal ties, songs aren’t mine”

Singer Abhijeet has once again voiced his discontent over not receiving due credit for singing songs in Shah Rukh Khan‘s films. In a conversation with ANI, he clarified that he holds no personal ties with the Bollywood superstar, emphasizing that the credit for their collaborative songs is solely his.

Abhijeet’s Stance on His Relationship with Khan

When questioned about his current association with Shah Rukh Khan, Abhijeet candidly stated, “Koi relationship hi nahi hai. I have met him a few times, but just for hello or hi greetings. Haven’t sat and talked to him properly like I am doing with you right now.” This remark highlights the superficial nature of their interactions, underscoring his grievances.

The Controversial Pairing Analogy

During the discussion, a comparison was drawn between the Abhijeet-Khan duo and the legendary partnership of Kishore Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan. However, Abhijeet refuted this analogy, explaining that their situation is distinct. He stated, “Mine and Shah Rukh’s case is different. After listening to our voices, it feels like we are twins. I realise it now that all these songs aren’t mine, Shah Rukh has sung them, written them, music has been done by him, the film is his, and even the cinematographer is Shah Rukh. Everything is Shah Rukh.” His frustration is palpable as he concluded, “Toh main kya karoon? Log mujhe bolte hain, ‘Aapka vo Shah Rukh ka gaana’. Then I realised that it isn’t my song.”

Recurrent Address of the Issue

Over the years, Abhijeet has continually brought attention to the lack of credit for his contributions to Khan’s films. Referring to a past interview with Pinkvilla, he expressed that both he and Shah Rukh Khan understand the dynamics between them, with a mere one-day difference in their birthdays symbolizing their closeness in nature. He remarked, “This is something Shah Rukh Khan knows very well. There’s no difference between us; our birthdays are just one day apart. We have the same nature, We both know what we’re going to be. If I go to him today, I can tell him, as his senior by 6-7 years, Enough of the drama, you are a star and always will be. But if I come back into the picture, then it will be me, not him.”

Specific Incidents and Their Fallout

Abhijeet pointed out that the first notable incident occurred with the release of “Main Hoon Na” in 2004, where almost everyone from the crew was credited except for the singers. Expressing his dissatisfaction, he mentioned, “Spotboys, assistant hair stylist, assistant dress maker – they credited everybody in the casting except the singers.” His belief that Khan’s stardom dimmed after he stopped singing for him intensifies the narrative. Their professional separation post “Om Shanti Om” in 2007 marked the end of their collaborative efforts.

Implications and Conclusions

The ongoing song credit controversy between Abhijeet and Shah Rukh Khan underscores deeper issues of recognition and artistry in the film industry. This disagreement not only affects their professional relationship but also highlights broader industry practices. The potential resolution lies in honorably acknowledging contributions and collaborating for creative integrity. As the narrative unfolds, it may pave the way for future dialogue about the importance of crediting artistic contributors fairly.
