Akshay Kumar addressed Jaya Bachchan’s remark about his film “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” during a press meet for “Kesari: Chapter 2” in Mumbai. A journalist informed Akshay Kumar that Jaya Bachchan had expressed disapproval of the film’s title. In response, Akshay stated, “If she has said so, she is right. If I had made a mistake by making such a film, she might be right.”
During her recent appearance at the India TV Conclave, Jaya Bachchan questioned the film’s title, even calling it a “flop.” Jaya commented, “Just look at the title of the film; I would never go to watch a film with such a name. Yeh, koi naam hai? [Is that really a name?]” She then asked the audience if they would watch a film with such a title, and when only a few hands were raised, she jokingly added, “Among so many people, hardly four people want to watch the film; it’s very sad. Yeh toh flop hai. [It is a flop.]”
“Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” is a quirky love story that delivers a strong social message. The film follows Keshav, played by Akshay Kumar, a small-town man who marries Jaya, portrayed by Bhumi Pednekar. After their marriage, Jaya leaves Keshav’s house upon discovering it lacks a toilet, setting off Keshav’s campaign against old traditions and his family’s inflexible mindset to build a toilet and win back his wife.
In addition to Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, the film features performances by Anupam Kher, Divyenndu, Sudhir Pandey, and Ayesha Raza Mishra in significant roles. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s new project, “Kesari Chapter 2,” delves into the untold story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Based on Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat’s book, the film centers on C Sankaran Nair’s fight for justice, a lawyer who was once the President of the Indian National Congress. The film is set for an April 18 release.
Akshay Kumar’s response highlights a potential divide in audience perception and creative choices, balancing viewer preferences and cinematic expression. As the conversation unfolds, the focus remains on how films like “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” can address essential societal issues through unconventional narratives.
