Rodger Corser, recognized as one of Australia’s most prominent television actors, has spoken candidly about his evolving professional journey and expanding responsibilities behind the scenes. Speaking recently, Corser confirmed that he has been growing his presence as a producer, having undertaken producer roles in the last two seasons of Doctor Doctor and previously served as Associate Producer for two additional seasons, a move that marks a significant step in his diverse television career.
Explaining his motivations, Rodger Corser noted that while producer credits in Hollywood can sometimes be awarded for influence rather than substantive contribution, he has aimed for a deeper involvement.
“I think in Hollywood, sometimes it can be a token thing, where someone wants changes to the script for ego reasons, then they want an exec producer credit,”
he remarked. Instead, Corser expressed admiration for actors like Claudia Karvan, acknowledging their genuine commitment to producing and the value of their industry knowledge.
“Claudia is a great producer. It’s definitely not token for her. She knows a lot about TV, a lot about scripts. I haven’t worked with Bec but I’m sure it’s the same,”
Rodger Corser emphasized, highlighting how he views Karvan as an inspiration for his own shift into producing. Corser described working alongside her on Spirited and noted her producing legacy on Love My Way, suggesting that learning the ropes is possible for those willing to seek out the challenge.
Reflecting on his earlier background, Rodger Corser revealed his academic roots in Film and TV rather than traditional acting, having gained hands-on experience in the corporate television world, and contributed to various Foxtel productions. With this blend of formal education and practical work, Corser’s career shift is positioned to influence both industry practice and creative direction, potentially encouraging other actors to take on similar roles in shaping Australian television’s future.
