Jeremy Renner discusses Hawkeye Season 2 future, hints at uncertainty and pay dispute with Marvel Studios

Jeremy Renner has addressed recent speculation about the future of Hawkeye Season 2, sharing thoughts on its development and revealing complications regarding pay with Marvel Studios. During a conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Renner discussed potential directions for the next season, provided updates on his involvement, and hinted at underlying issues that may affect the show’s production timeline and his return as Clint Barton.

Since his debut as Clint Barton in 2011’s Thor, Jeremy Renner has become a familiar face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most recently leading the Disney+ series Hawkeye alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, and Florence Pugh. When asked about rumors that a second season could focus on a The Raid-like story featuring Clint’s brother, Renner responded,

“Maybe some of that is true in there, I don’t know. We got into it, a little bit, sort of story-wise and stuff…Everybody is interested in it. I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, of course, man, I wouldn’t say no to that.’ I think there are a lot of ideas — they’ve still got to figure a lot of things out.”

Despite the creative enthusiasm, Jeremy Renner revealed a significant obstacle regarding his potential return: a dispute over salary. According to Renner, Marvel Studios offered him only half of the compensation he received for the first season. He shared his perspective, stating,

“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’…I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made the first season. So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”

Renner also explained that while salary was not specifically discussed during the podcast appearance, he is still open to returning for more Hawkeye, in part because it supports his RennerVation Foundation for foster care and at-risk youth. However, when questioned about his involvement in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, Jeremy Renner did not offer any confirmation, leaving fans uncertain about his future in the franchise.

The ongoing discussions about Hawkeye Season 2 and Renner’s compensation highlight both the challenges and importance of ensuring valuable talent remains a part of beloved franchises. Renner’s involvement has shaped the portrayal of Hawkeye, and any resolution of these issues will significantly influence Marvel’s future storytelling, as well as the expectations of fans who await news about the next chapter in Clint Barton’s story.
