Preity Zinta bravely spoke about molestation, tackled harassers, and championed gender equality in Bollywood

Preity Zinta, celebrated Bollywood actress, recently drew renewed attention for her fearless stand against molestation and her powerful advocacy for gender equality. She spoke openly about being molested in Delhi during her younger years, describing how she directly confronted her harassers. Zinta’s confession gives hope to many, especially as she continues to raise her voice for fair treatment and respect for women in Bollywood and beyond.

Known for her roles in films like Kal Ho Na Ho, Preity Zinta is recognized for her strong sense of independence, sharp intellect, and her degree in criminal psychology. Over the years, she has balanced admiration and criticism for her refusal to conform to long-standing industry norms. Zinta once testified in the Bharat Shah underworld case, standing firm in court—a step that very few in the film industry were willing to take at the time. Consistently, she has highlighted the persistent challenges women face on film sets, speaking openly about harassment and demanding change.

Recounting a horrifying incident from her time in Delhi, Preity Zinta revealed,

“So, in school I went to girl school, there is no eve teasing and all there. There were only Eves. But yes, when I went to Delhi, Yes! I’ve got my but pinched…and I was that, you know, pink cheeks, very light skin, and everybody would be like ooh and then they’d try to tease me and stuff.”

Rather than shrinking away, Zinta responded assertively, explaining,

“And then I slapped a couple guys here and there. And then I think one day my brother told me, you are going to get killed, don’t get into all this and then I moved to Mumbai and Mumbai was great.”

Preity Zinta’s candidness not only exposes the reality many women endure but also sheds light on her resilience. By sharing her experiences and directly taking on her harassers, she has become a role model for those who may feel powerless. Her involvement in high-profile cases and ongoing advocacy for gender equality challenge the status quo in Bollywood. As she continues her film career, with her appearance in the upcoming Lahore 1947, many are watching to see how her courage and calls for equality will impact the future of the industry and inspire greater respect and safety for women everywhere.
