Kamal Haasan postpones Thug Life audio launch, says ‘India comes first’ amid Indo-Pak tensions

Amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions following recent militant attacks in Pahalgam and the initiation of Operation Sindoor, Kamal Haasan has announced the postponement of the audio launch event for his upcoming film, Thug Life. The event, originally scheduled for May 16, will not take place as planned. Kamal Haasan emphasized national unity and cited the urgent need to stand in solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces as the primary reasons behind this decision.

The decision comes as the nation mourns casualties from attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where militant groups from across the border targeted civilians and tourists. In a swift response, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting what were described as terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. With tensions escalating and national security at risk, the country remains on high alert, prompting a wave of caution among public figures and event organizers.

Kamal Haasan, who is both the lead actor and producer of Thug Life, spoke directly to his fans and the public through an official statement.

“Art can wait. India comes first,”

he declared. Reflecting on the current environment, Kamal Haasan added,

“As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defence of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration.”

He conveyed that the rescheduling of the audio launch was a respectful response to the prevailing situation. The new date for the event will be announced once circumstances allow for it.

Thug Life is helmed by acclaimed director Mani Ratnam and features a strong ensemble cast including Silambarasan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Joju George, Nasser, and others, with Kamal Haasan in the lead. Renowned composer AR Rahman has scored the music, and the film is set for theatrical release on June 5. The project is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International in association with Madras Talkies.

This postponement highlights the gravity of the present situation and reflects Kamal Haasan’s commitment to national priorities over professional engagements. By deferring the Thug Life audio launch during a period of uncertainty, he has set a notable example of solidarity. The move is expected to be seen as an expression of respect towards the armed forces and the broader public sentiment during a challenging time. The development has also fueled anticipation around the film‘s eventual release, as fans and the industry await further updates.
