Ajay Devgn has made a significant move in the box office rankings, narrowing the gap with Akshay Kumar after the recent performance of Raid 2. This development comes as Raid 2, released on a moderate budget, crossed the 100 crore mark at the Indian box office on its ninth day, granting Devgn 100 more points in Koimoi’s Star Ranking. The achievement has shifted the competition, with Ajay Devgn now breathing down Akshay Kumar’s neck in the race for box office supremacy.
For those unfamiliar with Koimoi’s Star Power Index, or Star Ranking, it is a points system that measures Bollywood actors based on their films’ entries into various box office clubs, such as the 100 crore or 200 crore club. Points are also awarded for films ranking among the top 10 overseas grossers. Ajay Devgn’s recent success means his tally has now reached 1900 points, maintaining his fourth position in the rankings, with Akshay Kumar still ahead at 2000 points.
Raid 2’s box office journey has been remarkable so far, driven by positive word-of-mouth and steady audience turnout. Industry sources note,
“Ajay Devgn’s star power has once again proven resilient, especially after setbacks with Singham Again and Naam.”
However, the film’s potential has been affected by current events, with ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan likely to impact its ultimate box office run. Despite these challenges, Raid 2 is expected to be declared a clear success within India.
In a more stable environment, Raid 2 might have crossed the 200 crore barrier, allowing Devgn to gain an additional 100 points in the Star Ranking. This would have positioned him evenly with Akshay Kumar at 2000 points, possibly overtaking him for third place, since Devgn’s top-earning film, Tanhaji (279.50 crore), outperformed Kumar’s highest-grosser, Housefull 4 (206 crore). As it stands, however, the possibility of joining the 200 crore club seems out of reach for Raid 2, at least for now, limiting Ajay Devgn’s chances to surpass Akshay Kumar in this ranking round.
This development highlights the fierce competition among Bollywood’s biggest stars and underscores how box office successes or setbacks can rapidly influence industry standings. All eyes are now on upcoming releases, with fans and industry trackers alike wondering if Akshay Kumar will retain his edge, or if Ajay Devgn will seize the moment in future box office battles.
