Dev Patel’s medieval action movie The Peasant lands at A24, promises John Wick-style thrills in feudal India

Dev Patel’s new medieval action movie, The Peasant, has been officially picked up by A24, bringing together the acclaimed actor and director for another ambitious project. Filming will take place in feudal India, with Patel both directing and starring as a 14th-century shepherd whose life is shattered by an attack from mercenary knights, setting off a dangerous quest for vengeance. The movie, which draws comparisons to the intensity and style of John Wick, is expected to start production later this year.

The Peasant will reunite Dev Patel with A24, the same studio behind David Lowery’s The Green Knight, where Patel delivered a memorable performance. Stepping into the roles of both actor and co-writer, Patel will collaborate on the script with Will Dunn, whose writing resume includes the Marvel series Ms. Marvel. This blend of talents, alongside high expectations for brutal, high-stakes action, has already fueled great anticipation.

The production is in the hands of Fifth Season and Thunder Road, known for their work on the iconic John Wick film series and Patel’s previous movie Monkey Man. Their involvement hints at the intense fight sequences and dramatic storytelling that could make The Peasant a future franchise success.

“We’re thrilled to work with Dev Patel again and take audiences back to an era of swords and shields,”

shared an A24 spokesperson, emphasizing the studio’s commitment to boundary-pushing stories.

In addition to his work on The Peasant, Dev Patel is set to appear in the upcoming horror film Rabbit Trap, where he stars alongside Rosy McEwan in a suspenseful tale set in Wales. This diverse project lineup highlights Patel’s rising profile in the global film industry and his growing reputation as both an actor and filmmaker.

The announcement of The Peasant reflects a dynamic moment for Dev Patel’s career, with expectations high for a thrilling cinematic experience that merges historical drama with action-packed storytelling. As production gears up, film fans and industry observers are closely watching to see whether Patel’s medieval quest for vengeance will deliver on its promise of excitement and potentially launch an enduring new franchise.
