Justin Timberlake Reveals How He Persuaded Beyoncé to Join Iconic ‘Single Ladies’ SNL Sketch: You Won’t Believe Her Reaction!

For over 15 years, Beyoncé‘s catchy song “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and the memorable Saturday Night Live sketch it inspired have captivated fans. Justin Timberlake recently shared how he convinced the 32-time Grammy winner to parody her 2008 music video for the NBC sketch comedy show, featuring him, Andy Samberg, and Bobby Moynihan dressed as unitard-clad dancers. In the documentary “Ladies & Gentleman… 50 Years of SNL Music,” now streaming on Peacock, Timberlake recalled, “[Samberg] said Bobby Moynihan has this great idea for a sketch about you, me, and him being Beyoncé’s background dancers that never made the cut.” Timberlake’s immediate response was, “I was like ‘full leotard’? And he’s like, ‘yeah.’ I was like, ‘This is too funny. We have to do this.’”

Despite their shared history in 90s pop music, Timberlake had to work hard to persuade the Destiny’s Child alum. He explained, “She was very polite about it, but she was very hesitant. And when I say hesitant, I mean like, she was not having it.” Timberlake questioned whether she understood the potential humor and popularity of the sketch. He vividly described his approach, saying, “I put the leotard and the heels and the hose on and everything, and put a robe on. I walked and knocked on her door, I threw the robe down and put my hands on my hips and she was like, ‘No you didn’t!’”

Beyoncé achieved incredible success with the single from her third solo album, “I Am… Sasha Fierce,” winning the Grammy for Song of the Year and an MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. In the SNL sketch, Timberlake, Samberg, Moynihan, and host Paul Rudd humorously honored the hit song, with Rudd playing Beyoncé’s video director, claiming that he “hand-picked” the dancers himself, only for the hilarity to ensue when the trio was revealed. This playful homage provided fans with another unforgettable moment linked to Beyoncé’s legacy.
