Juliette Binoche Takes the Helm: Appointed President of the International Jury for Cannes Film Festival 2025!

French actor Juliette Binoche has been named President of the International Jury for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, as announced on the official website of the festival. Binoche succeeds ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig and will lead the team responsible for selecting the winner of the prestigious Palme d’Or.

In a recent statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Binoche expressed her excitement about her new role as jury president. “In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of President of the Jury. I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility, and the absolute need for humility,” she said. This reflects her long-standing connection with the festival, resonating deeply with her career journey.

Binoche made her debut at Cannes four decades ago with the premiere of André Téchiné’s film ‘Rendez-vous,’ which was her first major film that launched her career. Over the years, she has been a familiar face at the festival, collaborating with top directors such as Michael Haneke, David Cronenberg, and Krzysztof Kieslowski. Her talent was recognized when she won Best Actress at Cannes in 2010 for her outstanding performance in Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘Certified Copy.’

Moreover, Juliette Binoche holds the distinction of winning Best Actress at all three major European film festivals: Cannes in 2010 for ‘Certified Copy,’ Venice in 1994 for ‘Three Colors: Blue,’ and Berlin in 1997 for ‘The English Patient,’ for which she also received an Oscar and a BAFTA. Recently, she portrayed Coco Chanel in Apple TV’s ‘The New Look’ and collaborated again with Ralph Fiennes in a new adaptation of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey.’

The 78th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 13 to May 24, 2025. Binoche’s appointment as President of the Jury is not just a recognition of her illustrious career, but also an indication of the festival’s commitment to honoring exceptional talent and cinematic artistry.
