Matt Damon Shares Uncertainty Yet Hopeful News on Potential ‘Ocean’s 14’ After Talk With George Clooney!

The Ocean’s trilogy has been one of the most iconic moments in Hollywood history. Both commercial and critical hits, the films have gained a loyal following eagerly waiting for the next installment in the franchise. Starring Matt Damon, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and others, Ocean’s Thirteen was the third film in the original trilogy, and despite it being almost two decades since its release, fans still hold onto hope for the heist comedy’s return.

In a recent interview, Matt Damon opened up about the possibility of an Ocean’s Fourteen sequel. His comments were both hopeful and uncertain at the same time. The actor, alongside David Beckham, joined GQ magazine for a discussion about their collaboration on a new Stella Artois advertisement for the Super Bowl. During the conversation, Damon was asked about his upcoming project, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, as well as the rumored Ocean’s sequel.

While confirming that “The Odyssey is definitely happening,” Damon expressed uncertainty regarding what’s next for the Ocean’s franchise. However, he did share that he recently joined his former co-star, George Clooney, for brunch, where they discussed the future of the trilogy. Unfortunately for eager fans, the Good Will Hunting actor noted that nothing can be said for sure at this time. Yet, he couldn’t entirely dampen the spirits of his fans, adding that Clooney seems optimistic about the idea. “And with Oceans, I saw George this weekend; he’s in town because he’s getting ready to do a play on Broadway, so we had brunch together. You know, it’s Hollywood, so it’s never a sure thing until it’s a sure thing, but he seems bullish on it. So hopefully it’ll happen,” Damon stated.

Despite the ambiguity, there is still glimmering hope for fans of the franchise. Rumors of a potential Ocean’s 13 sequel surfaced back in 2021, although they never materialized. In a 2023 interview with Uproxx, Clooney revealed that there is a great script for the sequel, should the studio decide to move forward. He commented, “We have a really good script for another Ocean’s now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script.” With this indication, it appears that we may be moving toward some significant developments in the future of the Ocean’s franchise.

According to a report by The InSneider, director David Leitch is in early talks to helm the rumored sequel. Leitch is well-known for directing films like Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy, making him a strong choice for such an anticipated project. However, Damon has previously indicated that any sequel would ultimately depend on the original director, Steven Soderbergh. During an appearance on Good Morning America, he stated, “It would always be up to Steven Soderbergh if there was a story.” This raises an important question: would Damon be willing to reprise his role as Linus Caldwell if Leitch were directing instead of Soderbergh? As fans, we may have to wait for that answer.

For now, Ocean’s 13 remains available to watch on AMC+, serving as a reminder of the beloved franchise that many hope will come back to the big screen, featuring familiar faces and new adventures.
