At the 18th edition of the Kathakar International Storyteller Festival, Lucky Ali captivated the audience with a mini concert, featuring his iconic hits like “O Sanam,” “Ek Pal Ka Jeena,” and “Aa Bhi Jaa.” This vibrant event took place in Delhi’s Sunder Nursery, where fans bundled up in jackets and pullovers to enjoy the enchanting night, which lasted until 11 PM. Lucky Ali shared engaging anecdotes, including details of his artistic journey and stories that left attendees in awe.
During his performance, Lucky opened up about the recording session for “Ek Pal Ka Jeena,” a song featured in the 2000 film, “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.” He reminisced about the playful exchange he had with Hrithik Roshan while they worked on the track. “Raju bhai (Rajesh Roshan, the music director) was my senior. While recording it, with the lyrics ‘honthon pe pyaas hai, milne ki aas hai’, I jokingly asked Hrithik if he was comfortable singing ‘aas hai’ on screen, fearing it would draw laughter. Subsequently, Hrithik approached his father, Rakesh Roshan, saying, ‘Papa, I don’t want to sing ‘aas’ on screen!’ Rakesh humorously replied to me, ‘arre kya bol aur sikha raha hai isko?'” Lucky laughed as he recounted this amusing moment, illustrating the playful camaraderie they shared.
When asked about any contemporary songs he wished to sing, the 66-year-old Lucky candidly admitted, “I don’t really listen to music. It’s internal. Sometimes I listen to artists, though.” Notably, he touched upon his acting aspirations, influenced by his father, the legendary late comedian-actor Mehmood. Lucky reflected, “My father wanted me to be an actor, but he was overjoyed when he saw my success in music. He was my role model, and after his passing, I sought spiritual awareness through travel, particularly to the Himalayas.”
As the night continued, Lucky engaged in deeper discussions about life’s purpose, stating, “The purpose is to come and go away; we don’t have a choice.” The audience was taken aback when he revealed his next dream, saying, “Dream hai ki main shaadi karunga phir se!” This statement elicited chuckles and cheers from attendees. Additionally, he announced an exciting collaboration with Faisal Kapadia, promising fans, “I will soon do a concert in Delhi!”
Through this delightful interaction and the shared memories of Hrithik Roshan’s humorous reaction to “Ek Pal Ka Jeena,” Lucky Ali not only entertained his audience but also sparked conversations about music, life, and future dreams, leaving everyone eager for what comes next.
