Pankaj Tripathi, the acclaimed actor and former National Icon appointed by the Election Commission of India, has expressed his unwavering commitment to the democratic process, particularly as elections unfold in Delhi today, February 5. He emphasizes that voting should not be viewed as just another holiday to relax, but rather as a crucial right that every individual possesses. “Kya hai na, democracy mein voting ka right har vyakti ke paas hota hai. In fact, it’s the biggest right we have, which can lead to a positive change,” Pankaj Tripathi stated. His role with the Election Commission involved advocating for awareness, stressing the importance of treating voting day with respect and seriousness.
This election marks a significant moment, especially for young voters who have recently become eligible. “This year, young adults who have turned 18 will also be added to the voters list. The voting percentage should be increased; this is a power we get to exercise once in five years. It’s our moral responsibility if we keep talking about change,” he added. Pankaj Tripathi’s reflections underscore the importance of each individual’s vote in shaping the future.
Moreover, he revealed a surprising aspect of his interactions with fellow actors. “Whenever elections are held, I make sure to take an off and vote. I met two-three actors once on set, who told me, ‘maine toh aaj tak vote nahi kiya.’ Maine bola, ‘isme garv ki koi baat nahi hai! Tumhe karna chahiye. Jisko bhi vote karo, lekin karo,'” he shared, highlighting the need for awareness and action among peers.
Pankaj Tripathi’s advocacy sheds light on the profound impact of each vote and encourages citizens, particularly the youth, to rise and participate in the democratic process, reinforcing that neglecting this right is not something to take pride in.
