Blake Lively has filed a $160 million lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and running smear campaigns against her. The dispute dates back to the promotional tour for the 2024 film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestseller, It Ends With Us, in which Lively played the lead role of Lily Bloom. In addition to allegations of inappropriate behavior on set, Lively revealed that a particularly upsetting factor for her was Baldoni’s disparaging remarks about her close friend, music icon Taylor Swift.
Allegations of Misconduct and Backlash
According to Lively, Baldoni exhibited sexually charged conduct during filming and inserted unplanned explicit scenes involving nudity without her consent. She also accused him of probing into her personal life, including questions about her marriage to actor Ryan Reynolds. Beyond the on-set issues, Lively claims Baldoni orchestrated a smear campaign against her after she raised concerns about working conditions.
Baldoni, who also directed the movie and portrayed Ryle Kincaid—Lively’s on-screen partner—has denied all accusations. In turn, he filed a countersuit worth $400 million, but this legal response was dismissed in June of the previous year. Despite the dismissal, the legal battle between the two remains unresolved, with Lively’s trial scheduled for later in 2025.

Revealed Messages Between Lively and Taylor Swift
Recently, a number of private messages exchanged between Lively and her longtime friend, Taylor Swift, surfaced as part of the evidence set for the upcoming trial. These texts, obtained by E! News on January 20, show Lively expressing her frustration over Baldoni’s claim that he was unfamiliar with Swift’s music, which she found deeply insulting.
In one message, Lively wrote to Swift,
“The most bonkers part to me is him saying to you he doesn’t know pop culture made me more mad than anything he’s done to me.”
She further criticized Baldoni’s stance by highlighting his public brand focused on combating toxic masculinity, pointing out the contradiction:
“His entire brand is disassembling toxic masculinity. He monetizes it. He does TED talks!! But says that to you. Not only is it so rude but it’s untrue.”
Lively Defends Swift’s Status and Legacy
Lively emphasized how remarkable it is for Swift to be both immensely popular and widely respected, saying,
“Popularity doesn’t normally coincide with laurels,
”
comparing this rare combination to figures like Steven Spielberg:
“In very few cases it does. Steven Spielberg for example. There’s one.”
She questioned whether Baldoni would dare claim ignorance of Spielberg’s work, stating,
“You would never make a point to say to Steven Spielberg about his work – that you don’t know it bc you don’t know pop culture.”
Lively also praised Swift’s honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree, awarded by New York University in 2022, expressing admiration in another message:
“I honestly want to retroactively take you out to dinner to celebrate that. You deserve to be studied. You are a human masterclass. F**k. Yes. They see it.”
Expressions of Friendship and Support
Despite the tensions surrounding the lawsuit, Lively expressed a protective affection for Swift, stating,
“I’m so much less forgiving when it comes to someone messing with someone I love than when someone messes w me,”
and adding,
“I’m done. I just love you and am so ecstatic for you. And grateful to you for today. That was stupid fun.”
Swift responded warmly to Lively’s support, writing,
“I WON THE LOTTERY. You are the COOLEST PERSON IN THE WORLD and you like me!!”
The Wider Context and What Lies Ahead
This ongoing legal conflict highlights deeper issues regarding power dynamics and conduct on film sets, especially among high-profile figures like Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The emerging evidence, including these personal messages with Taylor Swift, could influence public perception and the forthcoming trial’s outcome. As the case progresses through the legal system, it will likely attract continued media scrutiny, not only for the allegations themselves but also for the way friendships and personal reputations intertwine within such high-stakes disputes.
