Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, known professionally as Adele, is an English singer, songwriter, and actress celebrated for her rich mezzo-soprano voice and emotionally candid songwriting. Born on 5 May 1988 in Tottenham, London, she graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in 2006 and signed with XL Recordings later that year. Early Life and Background

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on 5 May 1988 in Tottenham, London, to an English mother, Penny Adkins, and a Welsh father, Marc Evans. After her father left when she was two years old, she was raised by her mother. She began singing at the age of four and quickly developed a deep obsession with the human voice, often spending hours listening to recordings and mimicking the singers she admired.

In 1997, Adele and her mother relocated to Brighton on the south coast of England, before returning to London in 1999 and settling first in Brixton and then in West Norwood, the neighbourhood that inspired her first song, Hometown Glory. She spent much of her youth in Brockwell Park, where she played guitar and sang with friends. Lead singles Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You reached number one in multiple markets, and Set Fire to the Rain later became her third Billboard Hot 100 number one.

21 became the best-selling album of the 21st century, spending 24 non-consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 and becoming the longest-running number-one album by a female artist in United States chart history. In the United Kingdom, it became the second best-selling album of all time. At the 2012 Grammy Awards, Adele won all six of her nominations, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year, becoming only the second female artist in Grammy history to achieve that sweep in a single night.

In October 2012, Adele released Skyfall, the theme song for the James Bond film of the same name, recorded at Abbey Road Studios with producer Paul Epworth.
