He is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock band Daughtry, which he formed after finishing in fourth place on the fifth season of American Idol. His self-titled debut album, released by RCA Records in 2006, became the fastest-selling debut rock album in Nielsen SoundScan history and was the top-selling album of 2007.

Early Life and Background
Christopher Adam Daughtry was born on December 26, 1979, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He was raised in the small community of Lasker, North Carolina, until he was 14 years old. His parents, Sandra Daughtry and James “Pete” Daughtry, later resided in Palmyra, Virginia, where Daughtry spent part of his youth before moving to McLeansville, outside of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Daughtry attended Fluvanna County High School in Palmyra, Virginia, graduating in 1998. He took guitar lessons from blues rock guitarist Matt Jagger at Stacy’s Music store in Charlottesville, and he also studied with Mark Ebert from Laurinburg, North Carolina. During his high school years, he performed with rock bands at local venues, opening for acts that included his future bandmate Brian Craddock’s band My Dog Lucy.
Daughtry also appeared in two high school stage productions, The Wiz and Peter Pan, giving him early experience in front of an audience.
