Daniel Mark Pudi (born March 10, 1979) is an American actor and director known for his breakout role as Abed Nadir on the NBC comedy series Community (2009–2015). Born in Chicago to immigrant parents from Poland and India, Pudi grew up speaking Polish and developed an early passion for performance. He studied communication and theatre at Marquette University before training at The Second City and joining the sketch comedy ensemble Stir Friday Night! He has since built a diverse career spanning television, film, and voice acting while also exploring writing and directing.

Daniel Mark Pudi was born in Chicago on March 10, 1979, to Teresa (née Komendant) and Abraham Lazarus Pudi. His parents immigrated to the United States and became naturalized citizens. His mother hails from the village of Pokośno, Poland, while his father originated from Poduru, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India, and comes from a Telugu Christian family. Pudi grew up on the South Side of Chicago alongside his brother Adam and sister Katherine, speaking Polish with his mother and grandmother.
He attended Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, a northern suburb of Chicago, and later delivered the commencement address at the school in 2013. During his college years at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Pudi studied dance and graduated in 2001 with a degree in communication and theatre. He made history as the first winner of the Chris Farley Scholarship, which enabled him to perform at an improv comedy event featuring Jim Breuer and Dave Chappelle and deepened his interest in studying improv comedy.
