Edward Christopher Sheeran, known professionally as Ed Sheeran, is an English singer-songwriter and musician whose blend of pop, folk, and hip-hop has made him one of the most successful recording artists of his generation. Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, he began writing songs as a child and rose to prominence after independently releasing the No. 5 Collaborations Project in 2011, then signing with Asylum Records. Edward Christopher Sheeran was born on 17 February 1991 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. He spent his earliest years on Birchcliffe Road in nearby Hebden Bridge. His father, John Sheeran, worked as a curator at Cartwright Hall in Bradford, and his mother, Imogen Sheeran, worked at Manchester City Art Gallery. He has an older brother named Matthew, who later became a composer. His parents, originally from London, ran an independent art consultancy called Sheeran Lock from 1990 to 2010.

In December 1995, the family moved from Hebden Bridge to Framlingham in Suffolk, where Sheeran attended the independent Brandeston Hall preparatory school, now part of Framlingham College Prep School, and later Thomas Mills High School. He sang in a local church choir at the age of four, took up the guitar at eleven, and began writing songs during his teenage years. A 2004 school report described him as a natural performer, and classmates voted him most likely to be famous.

As a teenager, Sheeran was accepted into the National Youth Theatre in London and later auditioned successfully for Youth Music Theatre UK, joining their 2007 production of Frankenstein in Plymouth. He also studied Artist Development at Access to Music and briefly attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford before leaving to pursue live performance opportunities.

Sheeran began recording music in 2004 and, at thirteen, independently released his first collection, Spinning Man. He moved to London in 2008, playing small venues, opening for acts such as Nizlopi, and auditioning for the ITV series Britannia High. A 2009 EP, You Need Me, helped him build an early following, and in February 2010 he gained wider notice after posting a video through SB.TV, leading rapper Example to invite him on tour.

During 2010, Sheeran self-released the Loose Change EP, which featured his future debut single, The A Team, and performed a Station Session at St. Pancras International. Sheeran’s debut album, + (“Plus”), was released in September 2011 and topped the UK Albums Chart. Personal Life

Ed Sheeran began a relationship with childhood friend and former classmate Cherry Seaborn in July 2015. The couple announced their engagement in January 2018 and married in 2019. They have two daughters, born in 2020 and 2022. Sheeran has previously been in relationships with Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt and Athina Andrelos, who inspired Thinking Out Loud. A close friend of Taylor Swift, Sheeran has co-written several of her songs. He supports Ipswich Town Football Club, owns a minority stake in the club, and runs a Suffolk-based music charity, the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation.
