Hugh Dancy Bio
Hugh Michael Horace Dancy (born 19 June 1975) is an English actor known for his versatility across film, television and theatre. He rose to prominence for his portrayal of the title character in the television film David Copperfield (2000) and has since built a career that includes roles in Black Hawk Down (2001), Ella Enchanted (2004) and the NBC television series Hannibal (2013–2015).
Early Life and Background
Hugh Michael Horace Dancy was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and raised in Newcastle-under-Lyme. He is the eldest child of Jonathan Dancy, a philosophy professor, and Sarah Ann Dancy (née Birley), who works in academic publishing.
Dancy received early schooling at Edenhurst Preparatory School in Newcastle-under-Lyme before attending the Dragon School in Oxford and Winchester College. While at Winchester College he acted in a production of Twelfth Night that toured to the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, an early experience that contributed to his interest in performance and led him to study English at St Peter’s College, University of Oxford.
